Working for positive, community-wide, systemic change
in the areas of social justice, human rights, and the environment through art, education, activism and support.
We fulfill this mission through art exhibitions, community projects, educational and cultural events, and by creating many opportunities for volunteers to put change into action.
We believe that by bringing diverse, creative voices to our community we will create a broader, more inclusive life for all our citizens. We believe that by nurturing and initiating a more diverse conversation about social justice, human rights and the environment, we will create real, long-lasting and systemic change in our own lives and in the life of the community.
As part of our mission we collaborate widely with individuals and organizations of color in our region to amplify previously under-heard and under-seen artists and activists and to bring those voices to the mostly white and mostly affluent area of Greater Newburyport and beyond.
Art is the mainstay of our message, whether through the visual, spoken or performing arts.
Art is a universal vehicle for creating empathy.
Art can challenge a habitual response and create opportunity for growth.
The PEG Center for Art & Activism is a true example of grassroots activism and education creating actual and systemic community-wide change.
