About Us
Located in downtown Hartford, TheaterWorks was established to provide moderately priced professional theater with relevance and appeal for a broad, diverse constituency. Since its founding in 1985, TheaterWorks has produced over 130 plays and presents approximately 225 performances per season. On average, TheaterWorks' annual audience tops 40,000 of which more than 5,000 are subscribers. Producing top quality professional productions that are both entertaining and relevant is the cornerstone of the theater's mission.
TheaterWorks also owns and manages the historic 1927-built property at 233 Pearl Street, known as City Arts on Pearl. The facility houses the theater's business offices, performance and rehearsal venues, production and costume shops, dressing rooms, and storage space. It also provides a home and services to a diverse family of 10 arts organizations all paying below market level rents. With the largest group of non-profit arts organizations in Connecticut, City Arts on Pearl provides unparalleled synergies and economic benefits within a dedicated facility making it genuinely one of Hartford's safety nets for the arts.
