From: The Provincetown TheaterA note from Board Chair, David Wilson
Dear Friends,
Some of you may not remember, but there was a time not so long ago when we weren’t sure if there would continue to be a Provincetown Theater. When I joined the Board, the question was not IF we might need to shutter operations but WHEN. I don’t like to imagine what Provincetown would look like without a space for connection and catharsis through live performance, community storytelling, and artistry.
But we’re still here. Thanks to the leadership and dedication of our past and present Board members, David Drake’s artistic vision, and the hard work of our staff and volunteers, and our dedicated donors and patrons, we’ve risen to every challenge we’ve faced. Hundreds of theaters across the country did not make it through the pandemic, but we did! I feel renewed hope as we look to the year ahead. We’ve come a long way in five years, and this holiday season, I want to express my deepest gratitude to every person who has helped to see us through.
We know that this giving season, many worthy organizations will ask for your support. I’m writing to you today to ask you to make the Provincetown Theater part of your year-end giving plan.
A total of 119 individual donors have already contributed $32,000 towards our $80,000 year-end goal, but we need your help to get us to the finish line. These funds will see our operations through the winter season and allow us to plan for the season ahead.
You’ve proven time and time again that it’s vital for Provincetown to have a place where our stories, in all of their beauty and complexity, can be reflected on a live stage. Stories like Sweeney Todd, The Humans, and Tiny Beautiful Things. You’ve allowed us to continue to pay artists from our local community to do dignified work as performers, designers, and builders. You’ve helped us invest in our staff, which adds to our Theater and the Provincetown community. And you’ve continued to gather at every performance, ensuring that the Provincetown Theater remains where our friends and neighbors can greet one another as family.
Here’s to five more years of great theater produced by our community, for our community, and here’s to many more after that, with your support.
With Gratitude,
David Wilson, Board Chair
