7:30 pm - 9:00 pm: Susan Graham and the Music from Copland House Ensemble
Performance Santa Fe presents Susan Graham, mezzo soprano, and the Music from Copland House Ensemble
A Standing Witness is a monumental new collaboration between Grammy Award-winning composer Richard Danielpour and Pulitzer Prize-winning author and former U.S. Poet Laureate Rita Dove, created especially for the incomparable mezzo-soprano Susan Graham and the celebrated Music from Copland House Ensemble. The soaring music and probing poetry of this epic cycle for mezzo-soprano and chamber ensemble is a sweeping retrospective tracing enormous social, cultural, technological, and political upheavals in the U.S. since the watershed year of 1968. Rapturously received in premiere performances at the Kennedy Center, the University of Chicago, and elsewhere around the U.S., there is no more timely or provocative work for this pivotal moment in American history.

7:00pm - 8:00pm: Drummin’ Man: The Gene Krupa Story
Ten years ago marked a historic milestone for jazz in Northern New Mexico. The Santa Fe Music Collective was born from an idea who’s mission was to bring the highest quality jazz to Santa Fe. That same year, I accepted the challenge by “Stars Never Fade Productions” to play the leading role of Gene Krupa in their production of Drummin’ Man at the Santa Fe Playhouse. The show was a highly acclaimed success ……. “mission accomplished”. In 2023, we are on track to present 20 plus concerts in three separate venues, hosting some of the finest world class musicians in jazz today. We start 2023 with our participation in the first annual “Art + Sol” Winter Festival along with the most prestigious music presenters in our beautiful cultural capital of the southwest. On February 17th, SFMC will be celebrating our tenth anniversary with the revival of “Drummin’ Man” at SITE Santa Fe. We will be hosting a nine piece band of New Mexico’s finest, playing the Quincy Jones arrangements that helped propel the Gene Krupa Band to national fame in the 1940’s. Come help us celebrate Jazz history right here in Santa Fe as we once again reach our milestone.

$35 (Non-Members)

10:00 am - 12:00 pm: Education Showcase
Join us as we showcase young dancers and musicians from several of Santa Fe’s youth arts organizations, including the Santa Fe Youth Symphony, the Nacha Mendez Music Scholarship, Moving Arts Española, National Dance Institute New Mexico, and the New Mexico School for the Arts.
Education and Community Engagement:
We believe the arts are essential. They teach students valuable lessons, like: practice makes perfect, small differences can have large effects, collaboration leads to creativity. The arts create multiple pathways to problem solving, and they teach that all problems have more than one solution.
Research shown the benefits of arts education on performance and culture—especially student motivation, attitudes, and attendance. Numerous reports discuss the ways that increased access and involvement in arts education encourage students to stay in school, excel in school, succeed in life, and do well later in life at work.
And yet, despite the impressive benefits of arts access and education, not all people have access to these quality experiences.
Performing arts organizations across New Mexico (many of which are participating in Art + Sol) work every day to enrich the lives of our residents. Many companies offer free tickets for students or free family performances. Others offer 1:1 mentorship free of charge. Across Santa Fe, one can always find free, quality arts programming intended to engage community members.
Each of us has more work to do. The Art + Sol Festival is committed to advancing the values of diversity, equity, inclusion, and access for all Santa Feans. We will work to expand access for Festival offerings. We invite all community members to participate in the Festival and let us know how we can do better.
Moving Arts Española: Moving Arts Española (MAE) provides high quality, affordable performing and visual arts education and free nutritional and academic support for children and youth ages 3-18.
Santa Fe Youth Symphony Association: Santa Fe Youth Symphony Association’s Mission is to inspire and engage the youth of Northern New Mexico’s multicultural communities through excellent music education, the guidance of music professionals, and performance opportunities from small ensemble to full orchestra in Jazz, Mariachi and Orchestra.
Nacha Mendez Music Scholarship for New Mexican Girls of Color: Music is a powerful catalyst for personal growth. While it is an essential part of life for everyone, I believe music is particularly potent for young women and girls of color. Nacha’s mission is to encourage and promote the art of instrumental and vocal performance in girls, ages 8-15, in the state of New Mexico.
New Mexico School for the Arts: New Mexico School for the Arts (NMSA), based in Santa Fe, is the only four-year, statewide, public high school serving artist-scholars across New Mexico with a rigorous, award-winning pre-professional arts and academics program.
Location: New Mexico School for the Arts, 500 Montezuma Ave, Santa Fe, NM 87501
10:00pm - 11:00pm: DeVotchKa at Meow Wolf
A cross-pollination of numerous influences, including cabaret, spaghetti Westerns, norteño, punk, and the immigrant dance music of Eastern Europe, Colorado-based quartet DeVotchKa, formed in Denver by multi-instrumentalists Nick Urata (vocals, guitar, trumpet),
Tom Hagerman (violin, accordion), Jeanie Schroder (sousaphone, bass) and percussionist Shawn King, emerged as unlikely indie heroes in the mid-2000s infusing modern indie music with a global flavor.
They found widespread success in 2006 with their Grammy-nominated soundtrack to the hit indie film Little Miss Sunshine. Signing with revered indie, Anti-, the band delivered A Mad and Faithful Telling in early 2008, reaching the number nine slot on the Billboard Heatseekers chart. A lengthy world tour followed, including stops at major festivals like Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, and Bumbershoot. After doing more soundtrack work, this time for the 2009 comedy I Love You Phillip Morris, the group returned to the studio for 2011’s moody and triumphant 100 Lovers. Embarking on another world tour, they collaborated with the Colorado Symphony on the 2012 concert album Live with the Colorado Symphony. Over the next several years, Urata became increasingly involved in his own film composition career, scoring movies like Crazy Stupid Love, Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, Paddington, and the Netflix series A Series of Unfortunate Events. Meanwhile, the band regrouped for a lengthy recording session, eventually returning in 2018 with their sixth album, This Night Falls Forever, this time via Concord Records.
Location: Meow Wolf, 1352 Rufina Cir, Santa Fe, NM 87507.
