Peninsula Art League

Nestled on the western shores of Puget Sound, Washington's Gig Harbor Peninsula has long been a magnet for artists and writers. Breathtaking views of Mount Rainier, deep forests and shorelines rich with wildlife and an historic fishing village atmosphere offer an endless, ever-changing source of imagery and inspiration.

It was only natural, in 1980, for a small group of 'creative types' to join together in the formation of the Peninsula Art League. PAL's founding members included painters, jewelers, graphic artists, educators and others interested in promoting the visual arts in the Peninsula area. Their intent was to provide local opportunities for exhibiting their work, to support arts education and make the arts a vibrant, active part of our community.

Today, PAL's membership has grown to approximately 180 people - sculptors, photographers, potters, jewelers, glass artists and painters working in every imaginable medium. Some are professionals making a living from their art; for others, art is a hobby that gives hours of creative pleasure. There are also patron members who don't create art themselves, but are dedicated art supporters and promoters. All are welcome.

Throughout the year, PAL sponsors a variety of activities including monthly painting groups, classes and workshops, member shows and the very popular Summer Art Festival. Ongoing shows at local coffee shops, the medical center and community college offer opportunities for members to display their work. In addition, members whose work has been screened for exhibition are eligible to participate in PAL's quarterly members' shows.
