Walmart Expects to Raise Costs Amid Trump's Tariffs That Georgia Republicans Supported

Government and Politics

May 15, 2025

On May 15, 2025, Walmart announced that it will likely be forced to raise prices for consumers due to Donald Trump’s reckless tariffs – which Georgia Republicans including Buddy Carter, Rich McCormick, Mike Collins, and John King have all endorsed.

Walmart officials said today as they warned of price hikes that “given the magnitude of the tariffs, even at the reduced levels announced this week, we aren’t able to absorb all the pressure given the reality of narrow retail margins.”

Georgia Republicans, including those who have either announced bids for the U.S. Senate or are considering a run in 2026, have endorsed Trump’s devastating tariffs. Last month, Rich McCormick, Mike Collins, and Buddy Carter voted to give the president the unilateral ability to impose tariffs – which Buddy Carter called “a golden age” while Georgia insurance commissioner John King praised Trump for having the  “courage” to impose the tariffs, saying “I support it.”

“Every Georgia Republican who co-signed and endorsed Donald Trump’s reckless tariffs – including Buddy Carter, Rich McCormick, Mike Collins, and John King – will have to own the devastation they are bringing to Georgia families by raising costs on the things we buy every day,” said DPG spokesman Dave Hoffman. “Georgians literally cannot afford to promote the Republicans who are making their lives unaffordable just to win support from Donald Trump.”
