Happy Friday! It's hard for me to keep the days of the week straight in these holidays weeks (especially working from home). I hope you've been having a nice holiday season! We spent Christmas Eve here at our place with my mom, sister and nephew over and on Christmas day we headed to my uncle's house in the St. Cloud area and spent the afternoon with aunts, uncles and cousins for good food and fun. It's always so great to see everyone!
I'm taking things a little slow this week and in general don't have as many things to report to you, especially compared to that busy pre-holiday rush! If you're looking to get out, there are still lots of pretty light displays on our Holiday Lights in Minnesota List and we are sharing family/kid NYE ideas below.
It's also a great weekend to get outside because it is going to be very warm for Minnesota December standards! (If you're looking for specific outdoor events you can check out the DNR State parks events.) Last week I was excited about it being warm and the snow melting. Then my husband bought us snowshoes for Christmas and now I'm bummed the snow will be gone - maybe one of you in far northern MN can let me know if you still have snow on the ground after today!
Have a good weekend and I'll be back with another newsletter Monday. Until then, you can keep up with anything new at ThriftyMinnesota.com, on the Facebook page and also with our deals newsletter. Thanks for reading! It's appreciated!
p.s. After reading over this newsletter a little before sending I realize I'm rambling, but I'm tired and hope I'm not the only one feeling a
Minnesota New Year's Eve Parties for Kids & Families
If you're looking to get your kids in on the fun of celebrating New Year's Eve, there are lots of kid-focused celebrations going on around the state!
These parties all take place earlier in the day, many with a Noon Year's Eve ball drop at noon. There are parties at libraries, community centers, ice rinks and others. There is a lot of fun to be had including things like DJs and dancing, arts and crafts, games, photo booths and all kinds of other things.
Check out the list which is up to over 30 events all around Minnesota. Some require pre-registration so be sure to check those details. While some are free, others have an admission fee. And, if you know any others that aren't on the list, let me know!
Miracle at Big Rock Discount Tickets
Miracle at Big Rock is running through January 4th and there are some big discounts on tickets via Groupon available for visits on the 29th and 30th (as low as $12.14 for walk through and $9.60 for drive through).
Hannah visited this week and you can see the spectacle in her Instagram video.

Basically the whole deals landscape changed as of yesterday! We went from lots of people trying to get last minute holiday gifts to now the stores wanting to get rid of everything that people didn't buy!
The good thing is that it means there are lots of clearance sales happening. We're still working to get the Current Great Deals Page caught up with all the changes. Some we've added so far are Target clearance sales, Crocs up to 65% off + an EXTRA 20% off code, GAP Factory up to up to 75% off + an EXTRA 50% off clearance, Barnes and Noble 50% off thousands of hard cover books plus lots of clearance 50% off, the Fleet Farm 15% off everything you can fit in the bucket sale, and more.
I have yet to hit the stores to clearance shop for myself. I usually like to wait a few days until things hit 75% off. Yes, it's WAY more picked over by then, but also a lot cheaper. My favorite finds are always holiday editions of foods and Christmas-themed version of things that can actually be used for other holidays - like dividing up the green and red Hershey Kisses to red for Valentine's Day and green for St. Patrick's Day or finding Christmas wrapping paper in plain stripe, plaid or dot patterns that can be used for birthdays throughout the year.
Get the details on all of these and see the other sales, freebies and deals on our Current Great Deals Page! Also, you can now stay up to date with our Best Thrifty Deals Facebook Page and via our Best Thrifty Deals e-mail newsletter. Sign up for future newsletters HERE.
