Columbia, SC – On Jan 27th, South Carolina’s Members of the Democratic National Committee announce their endorsement of Minnesota Democratic Party Chair Ken Martin as the next chair of the Democratic National Committee. Joining State Chair Christale Spain and Vice Chair Colleen Condon in today’s endorsement are South Carolina’s additional DNC Members Clay Middleton, Bryanta Maxwell, Carol Fowler and Kaye Koonce.

South Carolina’s DNC Members point to Martin’s record of success in expanding Democratic majorities and building inclusive coalitions. Under Martin’s tenure, the Minnesota DFL has been a model for state party innovation and voter engagement, achieving significant electoral victories.

“Ken Martin has demonstrated a deep understanding of what it takes to build a strong, inclusive Democratic Party from the ground up,” said Chair Christale Spain. “As the Chair of the South Carolina Democratic Party, I’ve seen firsthand how critical it is to have leadership that prioritizes grassroots engagement, empowers state parties, and invests in long-term strategies to win elections. I am confident that Ken’s vision and dedication will ensure the Democratic Party will thrive at every level.”

Over the last 20 years, South Carolina Democrats have played a special role in the Democratic Presidential nomination process. South Carolina’s diverse electorate highlights the importance in amplifying the voices of historically underrepresented communities.

As South Carolina Democrats prepare to lead the way in 2028 and beyond, we need a DNC Chair who understands the importance of investing in every state and building a party that represents all Americans. Ken Martin is that leader.
