ALBUQUERQUE - The Republican Party of New Mexico applauds the House passage of H.Con.Res.14, the Fiscal Year 2025 Budget Resolution on February 25, 2025, a critical step toward delivering some of the most significant tax relief New Mexicans have ever seen. This resolution passed 217-215 with zero Democrat support, with New Mexico Representatives Gabe Vasquez (CD 2), Melanie Stansbury (CD 1), and Teresa Leger Fernández (CD 3) voting against it.
This budget resolution lays the groundwork to eliminate taxes on tips, Social Security, and overtime, extend key Trump Tax Cuts set to expire, and unlock resources to secure our borders, strengthen national security, and support American energy dominance through upcoming reconciliation bills.
“This House resolution paves the way for the elimination of tax on tips for service workers, Social Security for seniors, and overtime for those hustling to provide for their families, delivering $2 trillion in tax cuts nationwide and saving families $2,000 a year,” said Amy Barela, Chairwoman of the Republican Party of New Mexico. “These aren’t handouts for the rich—they’re lifelines for the middle class. But Gabe Vasquez, Melanie Stansbury, and Teresa Leger Fernández voted NO, blocking the path to these tax breaks so they can keep taxing New Mexicans dry. Despite lying that this budget favors billionaires, these NM Democrats would choose to extend the Biden administration’s policies, which crushed families with 20% price hikes and oversaw one of the biggest wealth transfers to the rich in history.”
Barela continued, “Vasquez, Stansbury, and Leger Fernández prove Democrats don’t deliver tax relief—they only tax you more, waste those funds in bureaucracy, and cry crisis to avoid accountability.
“President Trump and Republicans are fighting for you with this budget and the President’s worker-first executive orders. While Democrats continue to keep New Mexicans last, Republicans are fighting every day to put you first.”
