'There's a different way:' Pima County
INVESTs in the formerly incarcerated

James Tatum was at a low point in his life, sentenced to three years of probation, but then he got involved in Pima County’s INVEST program, helping to turn his life around. Tatum now works with men going through INVEST, which helps formerly incarcerated people re-acclimate and succeed in the outside world, avoiding a return to jail. “There is a different way,” Tatum said. “You don’t have to continue down that road.”

Transportation Department completes Kolb Road improvement project

After two years of active construction and many more years of planning, the 1.9-mile stretch of Kolb Road is complete. The Pima County Department of Transportation-led project runs from Sabino Canyon Road to Sunrise Drive and includes a center-turn lane, multi-use lanes, sidewalks and more.

Valet VITA program offers
fast, easy, free tax assistance
to Pima County residents

Joe Gracia ran a quick errand one recent Thursday morning. He went by the Kino One-Stop to have his taxes prepared for him. 

That may not be a quick errand for many, but -- based on his previous experience with the Valet VITA program -- Gracia expected to be in and out in about 30 minutes. And he was.

Crowdsourced data helping
Pima County improve
The Loop experience

Pima County is committed to enhancing the user experience on the 155-mile Chuck Huckelberry Loop, which was named the best urban recreational trail by USA Today in 2021 and 2022.

The County has been utilizing a variety of data sources, including 10 permanent counter stations and crowdsourced data from Strava Metro, to gain a comprehensive understanding of the trail's usage patterns. These trends and data will be used to help trail managers better prioritize various aspects of operations, maintenance and long-term planning efforts.

Pets of Pima Parade
draws 30,000 spectators,
hundreds of participants

The second annual Tucson Subaru Pets of Pima Parade was a huge success, drawing an estimated 30,000 spectators to North Fourth Avenue on a cool Sunday for a celebration of pets and people in Pima County.

More than 1,200 participants of both the two- and four-legged varieties walked in the parade, including dogs, goats, birds, pigs and a bearded dragon.

Senior Resource Fair set for March 11

Pima County District 1 Supervisor Rex Scott and his team will be hosting a free Senior Resource Fair March 11 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Steam Pump Ranch, 10901 N. Oracle Road. About 30 businesses, government agencies and nonprofits are expected at this senior-centric event offering important resources on aging.

Fight to save saguaros goes beyond February

February may be almost over, but that doesn’t mean it’s too late to help save Pima County’s favorite tall, spiky plants.

Every February, Pima County Natural Resources, Parks and Recreation teams up with the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, Tucson Clean & Beautiful and other community partners for Save Our Saguaros Month. The campaign organizes all-volunteer buffelgrass pulls to help protect native plants like saguaros from invasive grasses.
