In response to a new survey showing a majority of Idahoans oppose Idaho’s dangerous and extreme abortion ban, Idaho Democratic Party Chair Lauren Necochea released the following statement:

“Idaho has one of the most extreme abortion bans in the nation, and the harm is undeniable. Women across the state are being denied critical care. The largest health system reports airlifting women to out-of-state facilities under a law that fails to protect their health and future fertility and threatens doctors and nurses with prison sentences for making decisions in the best interest of their patients.

“This latest survey confirms what we’ve known all along: Idahoans reject this dangerous ban. A majority support expanded access to abortion, and even more agree that exceptions to the law must be broadened. But Republican leaders refuse to act, doubling down on policies that harm women and families.

“While Idaho Democrats have fought to restore reproductive freedoms, Republicans have blocked every effort. Now, with Donald Trump’s likely attorney general nominee expected to abandon federal protections for emergency abortion care under EMTALA, the risks to Idaho women will only grow.

“Idaho Democrats will continue fighting for your health, your freedom, and your future because it’s clear the Idaho GOP won’t.”
