In a newly aired 11Alive interview, Insurance Commissioner and GOP U.S. Senate candidate John King proudly outlined his support for the Trump-backed bill that would enact the largest Medicaid cut in American history to pay for massive tax breaks for the ultra wealthy, saying he would “absolutely” vote to pass the GOP’s budget bill if he were currently in the Senate.
The GOP plan “could cause as many as 8.6 million people to lose their health insurance over the next decade” and advocates in Georgia warn it could seriously threaten Georgia’s rural hospitals.
King is the latest Georgia Republican to line up behind hiking costs for Georgia families and putting health care in jeopardy for hundreds of thousands of Georgians, after Reps. Buddy Carter, Rich McCormick, and Mike Collins voted to pass the bill out of the House last month.
“John King’s shameless support of the Trump-backed bill that would rip health care coverage from millions of people shows how out of touch he is with the priorities of Georgia voters,” said DPG Senior Communications Advisor Devon Cruz. “King and Georgia Republicans cannot be trusted to put the health and wellbeing of Georgians over lining the pockets of billionaires.”
