Behind closed doors, Hall avoided questions while Dems stood together to protect Michigan students

LANSING - On June 12, 2025 Night, state House Republicans attempted to copy their federal counterparts and shove through a disastrous budget in just 15 minutes under the cover of night, despite the devastating impact it will have on Michigan students. In response to Speaker Matt Hall avoiding questions on his shady budget passage, Chair of the Michigan Democratic Party Curtis Hertel released the following statement:

“Matt Hall clearly isn’t proud of Republicans’ work on this outrageous education budget because he seems to be the quietest he’s been since…birth. Education in Michigan is key to helping so many young Michiganders access the American Dream, and I am proud of our Democratic state House caucus for standing together to push back on Republicans raising tuition on Michigan families.

“This is yet another example of Matt Hall’s failure to be a real leader, hiding from the media when things get tough and bringing us closer to a government shutdown as his Republican caucus continues to neglect their duties. Thankfully, Michigan Democrats are walking the walk as they stand up to protect the futures of thousands of Michigan families and students.”
