“[Lombardo’s] campaign expense reports show he has been quietly supporting anti-abortion groups.” – Nevada Independent

Days after being pressured by anti-choice extremists to restrict a woman’s right to choose, Joe Lombardo vetoed a bipartisan bill that would have protected infertility treatments like in vitro fertilization (IVF) – taking an even more extreme position than Donald Trump.

Lombardo said he would support a 15-week abortion ban and separately that he opposed a widely popular ballot measure enshrining abortion rights into Nevada’s state constitution. This comes after Lombardo vetoed AB383 last session, the “Right to Contraception Act,” a bill that would have locked the right to contraception into state law. He vetoed a similar bill this session.

Lombardo has an extreme history of supporting anti-choice groups, including hosting them at the governor’s mansion:

  • Lombardo sponsored an event for the extreme anti-choice group Nevada Right to Life and paid them $1,500 for special event fees.
  • Lombardo donated $1,700 to anti-abortion “crisis pregnancy centers” that try to persuade women out of abortion care.
  • Lombardo has removed all language warning about the crisis pregnancy centers predatory nature from the state’s Health and Human Services website, which had previously described them as “organizations that seek to intercept women considering abortion.”

Nevada State Democratic Party spokesperson Tai Sims:

“Joe Lombardo is an anti-choice politician who would rather cater to extreme anti-abortion groups rather than protect a woman’s right to choose, including critical infertility treatments like IVF that are often a woman’s only option for pregnancy. Lombardo supports new restrictions on abortion at a time when reproductive freedom is already under attack. He is out of step with the majority of Nevadans across the political spectrum who overwhelmingly support reproductive health protections.”
