KDP Statement on Federal Budget That Hurts Kentucky's Most Vulnerable

Government and Politics

May 22, 2025

FRANKFORT, KY - On May 22, 2025, moments after Republican members of Kentucky’s congressional delegation voted in favor of the largest cuts to health care and food assistance in U.S. history, Kentucky Democratic Party (KDP) Chair Colmon Elridge released the following statement on the House’s passage of the harmful Trump-backed federal budget:

“President Trump returned to the White House promising to make life more affordable. Instead, he has given us a budget that funds tax breaks for billionaires by taking hundreds of billions of dollars in food and health care away from millions of vulnerable Kentuckians and ending programs that help families pay bills, go to school, fight addiction and create better lives.  Rural hospitals will close, children and veterans will lose critical care and thousands of Kentucky families will struggle to put food on the table.  Kentucky Republicans have betrayed the people they took an oath to serve.  Kentuckians, and Americans, deserve better."
