LANSING — In case you missed it, with the start of Trump’s presidency, the Detroit News reviewed the nearly 400 hundred promises that Trump made in Michigan during his campaign. These promises will define the success or failure of Trump’s leadership in his own words as he once again creates a trail of empty words that shows Michiganders who he really is - a charlatan.
On the campaign trail, Trump told Michiganders he would create “the greatest jobs boom” ever seen and “fix every single problem our country faces” - yet so far, all he’s done is threaten Michigan jobs and undermine auto manufacturing. With his 25% tariffs on Canada, the price of gas, groceries, utilities, and more could skyrocket and devastate Michigan families.
We’ve seen it before and we’ll see it again, Trump has nothing but empty promises to offer Michiganders. While he keeps trying to sell these lies, Michigan Democrats are staying laser-focused on delivering on the kitchen-table issues that impact our communities the most.

Detroit News: These 400 promises Trump made in Michigan now loom over his 2nd term
- Within hours of Republican Donald Trump becoming the nation’s president at noon Monday, deadlines will begin approaching for some of the more than 400 promises he made to Michigan voters…

- Some of his guarantees were sweeping in nature and, on their faces, already appear difficult or impossible to achieve. For instance, during an Oct. 18 rally in Detroit, he vowed to create “the greatest job boom the world has ever seen…”
- Likewise, Trump told a crowd in Grand Rapids on the morning of Nov. 5 that his administration could “fix every single problem our country faces.” During two different campaign stops in Michigan, Trump said everyone or every family “will prosper” under his leadership.
- “A lot of promises were made by the incoming administration,” Buttigieg told The Detroit News in an interview last week.
- “What’s really going to be most important is to at least go through the motions of taking those promises at face value and then set up a structure for there to be some accountability on whether they are or are not delivering the things they said they would deliver and whether or not they’re delivering for the people they said they would help…”
- However, Michigan Democratic Party Chairwoman Lavora Barnes said Democrats’ No. 1 priority is “delivering for Michigan.” If Trump can’t deliver for the state, “he has no place in office,” Barnes said on Friday. “Every time Trump lies or fails our great state, we will be there to hold him accountable and remind Michiganders of how Democrats have and will continue to deliver for them in the face of his extreme and expensive agenda,” Barnes said.
