The House Energy and Commerce Committee is preparing $200 billion in cuts, putting Medicaid  on the chopping block

DES MOINES - House Republicans are preparing for a massive round of budget cuts that include $200 billion minimum in cuts from the Energy and Commerce Committee - which oversees Medicaid.

As Congress begins to negotiate these cuts, Iowans deserve to know how much the Republicans serving them in Washington, D.C. are willing to cut from Medicaid.

According to the Kaiser Family Foundation, nearly 700,000 Iowans are enrolled in Medicaid.

“Iowans are already struggling with a high cost of living – which is likely to get worse because of Donald Trump’s trade war with Canada. They can’t afford to lose their Medicaid now, or ever,” said IDP Chair Rita Hart. “Rural hospitals and medical providers depend on Medicaid dollars and Medicaid plays a crucial role in ensuring that Iowans from all walks of life have access to necessary treatments. Iowans deserve to know whether their representatives in D.C. will vote to cut Medicaid.”
