ST. PAUL, MN - Governor Tim Walz and United States Senators Amy Klobuchar and Tina Smith today traveled to the Two Harbors area in Northeastern Minnesota to survey damage caused by wildfires. The Camp House fire, Jenkins Creek fire, and Munger Shaw fire have impacted an estimated area of over 32,000 acres. Local, state, and federal firefighters, alongside emergency management officials and volunteers are working to contain the fires as gusting winds increase fire activity. Photos from the Governor’s visit are available online .

“The fires across Northern Minnesota have forced families to evacuate and caused severe damage. My thoughts are with those who have had to leave everything behind, and I extend my deepest gratitude to the wildland firefighters, first responders, volunteers, and emergency management officials who are working around the clock to contain these fires,” said Governor Walz. “The state is ready and committed to do everything in our power to respond to and suppress these fires and others across the state, and help impacted communities rebuild.”

On Monday, Governor Walz authorized the Minnesota National Guard to provide emergency assistance to help respond to wildfires. The National Guard is working alongside the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, Minnesota Interagency Fire Center, and other state and local agencies.

While crews are responding to active wildfires across the state, the three largest are in Northern Minnesota. The Camp House Fire is estimated at 14,979 acres (0% containment), the Jenkins Creek Fire is estimated at 15,571 acres (0% containment), and the Munger Shaw Fire is estimated at 1,630 acres (25% containment). Ground and air suppression efforts continue with more than 300 personnel dispatched to the Camp House and Jenkins Creek fires and 65 personnel to the Munger Shaw fire. The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office and Emergency Management are coordinating public safety efforts, including evacuations and road closures.
