ST. PAUL, MN - Governor Tim Walz has authorized emergency assistance for six Minnesota counties that suffered damage caused by severe thunderstorms and flooding last summer.

“I’m grateful for Minnesota’s emergency management team for coordinating closely with counties to assess damage and help communities recover from severe weather events,” said Governor Walz. “We’re committed to continuing to do our part to help communities recover from last summer’s severe weather.”

Isanti County is receiving emergency assistance for significant damage caused by severe thunderstorms on August 26, 2024. Dakota, Lyon, Olmsted, Ramsey, and Scott counties are receiving state emergency assistance to help cover the damage to public infrastructure caused by severe flooding between June 16 and July 4.

As climate change increases the frequency of extreme weather events, impacts to outdated infrastructure and roadways have caused millions of dollars in damages statewide. Collaborative emergency planning at all levels of government and investments in infrastructure are critical to safeguarding against future damage.
