Gov. Reynolds Orders Flags at Half-Staff on May 15 for National Peace Officers Memorial Day

Gov. Kim Reynolds ordered all flags in Iowa to be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to?sunset?on Thursday, May 15, in honor of the National Peace Officers Memorial Day.? 

“Today, we pay tribute to two sets of heroes. We honor those with the courage to wear the badge, accepting all the dangers and sacrifices it entails, even, potentially, the ultimate sacrifice. And we honor their loved ones who have the courage to share the people most precious to them for the sake of a better world,” Gov. Reynolds said. “To the families of officers killed in duty, the gratitude we owe you is unbounded. Your loved ones have left a legacy that lives on in the communities they served, in the lives they protected, and in the hearts of those who carry their memory forward. They remind us that peace is not promised—it is preserved by men and women of courage.”

Flags will be at half-staff on the State Capitol Building and on?flag?displays in the Capitol Complex. Flags will also be at half-staff on all public buildings, grounds and facilities throughout the state.?

Individuals, businesses, schools, municipalities, counties and other government subdivisions are encouraged to fly the?flag?at half-staff for the same length of time as a sign of respect.??

Flags at the Iowa?Peace?Officer?Memorial?site remain at half-staff during National Police Week, May 11, 2025 through May 17, 2025.??
