ATLANTA (May 29, 2025) – Five decades after Atlantans united to “Save the Fox,” the city’s crown jewel of live entertainment, the Fox Theatre is not only still standing but shining brighter than ever. June marks the 50th anniversary of the 1975 grassroots campaign that saved the historic Fox Theatre from demolition. To commemorate the triumph, the Fox Theatre is highlighting key developments from recent years that reflect its ongoing commitment to the arts, community, and historic preservation. Highlights include:
· All-Access Pass Program Launch: The Fox Theatre rolled out its exclusive All-Access Pass Program, in March 2024 as part of Fox Gives, the Fox Theatre’s expanded philanthropic arm. The program offers high school students hands-on experiences, mentorship and behind-the-scenes access to theater operations, bridging the gap between passion and profession while reinforcing the Fox’s commitment to community enrichment and arts education.
· Multiyear Grant Program Launch: Created to support the long-term sustainability of historic theaters, this initiative awards up to $500,000 to a single organization over two to four years. In total, the theater has issued $4.2 million to Southeastern theaters since 2008. The first grant was awarded to Hart County Community Theatre in Hartwell, Georgia, which will help restore its century-old venue, following a $23,000 emergency grant awarded during the 2022–2023 grant cycle.
· Mid-Year Charts: The Fox Theatre continues to rank among the nation's top venues. According to Pollstar’s mid-year report, the Fox Theatre is ranked #1 in ticket sales worldwide for its size.
· Expanded Premium Offerings: Guests can access Premium Experience Memberships that rival those of major arenas, including entry to the luxurious Marquee Club presented by Lexus. Membership options can be explored by contacting [email protected].
“Fifty years ago, Atlanta citizens took a stand, saved the Fox Theatre from demolition and recognized the Fox was an irreplaceable treasure worth preserving for future generations,” said Allan Vella, President and CEO of the Fox Theatre. “Our success demonstrates that a historic venue can evolve into one of the top performing theatres in the country; one that not only delivers world class entertainment but also gives back to the community that saved it.”
The “Save the Fox” campaign remains one of the nation’s most celebrated preservation success stories. In 1974, the future of the theater was uncertain. By mid-1975, thanks to the determination of local leaders, activists and everyday citizens, the Fox was officially saved from impending demolition. Today, nearly 100 years since its inception, it stands as a national historic landmark, a cultural touchstone and a model for sustainable historic preservation.
This summer, the Fox Theatre continues its tradition of presenting premier entertainment with a robust lineup that includes Vince Gill, Fridayy, Kansas and 38 Special, and “Jeezy Presents TM:101 LIVE with Color of Noize Orchestra.” In addition, the theatre will also host its annual Archives event, which offers a closer look at the venue’s storied past that complements the ongoing celebration of the Save the Fox campaign.
