Oklahoma City, OK – As the Senate prepares to vote on Pete Hegseth’s confirmation as Secretary of Defense, alarming new revelations and longstanding concerns underscore his unfitness to lead the Department of Defense. From serious allegations of abuse to a history of mismanagement, Hegseth’s record disqualifies him from assuming this critical role.

Hegseth’s confirmation hearings have only deepened concerns. Instead of addressing the troubling allegations against him, Hegseth dodged straightforward questions and failed to offer clear answers about his qualifications or conduct. His inability to provide accountability further highlights his unsuitability for such a vital position.

Adding to the controversy, Hegseth’s former sister-in-law issued a sworn statement this week detailing his abusive behavior toward his ex-wife, which caused her to fear for her safety. These allegations are deeply troubling and raise serious questions about his character and his judgment.

Beyond personal misconduct, Hegseth’s professional record is equally concerning. His mismanagement of a veterans' organization casts doubt on his ability to lead one of the federal government's most critical institutions. Even Republican senators have expressed reservations about his candidacy, reflecting the widespread unease about his fitness for the role.

“The Secretary of Defense must be a leader of unquestionable integrity and competence,” said Alicia Andrews, Chair of the Oklahoma Democratic Party. “Pete Hegseth’s record shows a pattern of behavior that makes it clear he cannot be entrusted with this responsibility. The safety and security of our nation demand better.”

Hegseth’s nomination is also proving deeply unpopular among Americans, with polls indicating widespread opposition. The Department of Defense’s mission is far too important to be jeopardized by an unqualified and controversial nominee.

The Oklahoma Democratic Party urges senators from both parties to reject Pete Hegseth’s confirmation and demand a nominee who embodies the integrity, accountability, and competence required to lead the Department of Defense. Call Sen. Lankford and tell him to vote no on Hegseth. Lankford's office number 202-224-5764.
