April 3, 2025

5 - 7 pm - Krannert Uncorked

Location: Stage 5 at Krannert Center for the Performing Arts (500 S Goodwin Ave, Urbana)

Cost: FREE

CU Tango Music and 40 North 88 West collaborate with the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts to kick off both the CU Tango Music Festival and the Boneyard Arts Festival. This special edition of Krannert Uncorked includes performances by Bandoneon Massacre as well as our festival guest artists, featuring their individual solo and duo projects.

April 4, 2025

8 pm - Festival Concert

Location: Urbana Dance Company

Cost: $25 (at the door)/$20 (preregistration)/$10 (students)

The festival concert features contemporary tango music alongside gems of the Golden Age of tango. Performing music by some of the most prolific names in tango today, including Julián Peralta, Ramiro Boero, and Pablo Jaurena alongside up-and-coming composers and arrangers Rodrigo Avalos, Teagan Faran, Pétalo Selser, and Katharina Driessler, our festival guest artist musicians explore the depth and breadth of tango music expression.

April 5, 2025

3 pm - Tango Music Workshop for Strings and Bass

Location: Community Center for the Arts

Cost: FREE

Are you a string player curious about tango music? Explore the origins of the music of Astor Piazzolla. This free workshop, led by tango musicians Maxfield Wollam-Fisher and Teagan Faran is an introduction to how to make a tango sound like tango. Open to all levels.

8 pm - Intro to Tango Dance

Location: Urbana Dance Company

Cost: FREE

Now that you're hooked on the music, are you curious about the dance? Try this free, low-commitment, judgement-free intro to tango dance class.

9 pm - 1 am - Festival Milonga

Location: Urbana Dance Company

Cost: $30 (at the door)/$25 (preregistration)/$15 (student, non-dancer)

The festival milonga brings together our guests artists, local tango band Bandoneon Massacre, and Midwest guest musicians for a magical night celebrating the beauty and drama of tango music and dance. The milonga features music from DJ Mariano Bejarano and our 20+-piece festival orquesta as well as a special live-music dance performance from Daniela Roig and Hernan Prieto. You will not want to miss this one-of-a-kind evening in the enchanting ballroom at Urbana Dance Company.

April 6, 2025

10 am - 12 pm - Practica with Brunch and Jam

Location: Urbana Dance Company

Cost: FREE

Bring your instrument and join our jam, bring your dance shoes and practice those new moves, bring a dish to share, or just bring an empty stomach and enjoy a chill Sunday brunch.

2 pm - UFLive! presents Bach en Bandoneon

Location: The Urbana Free Library

Cost: FREE

The Avalos Solera duo presents their album "Bach en bandoneon" composed of pieces by J. S. Bach adapted for two bandoneons as well as arrangements of classic tangos to demonstrate the intersection between tango and baroque music. This concert is presented by The Urbana Free Library as part of the Boneyard Arts Festival.
