City Council to meet Feb. 20

Mesquite City Council meets Monday, Feb. 20, at 7 p.m. at City Hall, 757 N. Galloway Ave. Members of the public, applicants and interested parties may attend the meeting in person. Face coverings are optional for attendees, but the city will continue to implement social distancing measures with limited seating. Members of the public desiring to comment during Citizens Forum must preregister as follows: Send an email or call the City Secretary on or before 3 p.m. on Feb. 20 at [email protected] or 972-216-6244. Provide the City Secretary with your name and address. Comments on agenda items may be made during the meeting or by submission on or before 3 p.m. on Feb. 20 to the following email address: [email protected]View meeting agendas online. The City broadcasts meetings via Facebook Live and at www.cityofmesquite.com/WatchCouncilMeetings.

Mesquite BRE Task Force honors local businesses

The Mesquite Business Retention and Expansion (BRE) Task Force presented seven awards on Jan. 19 at the Mesquite Chamber of Commerce Luncheon. The BRE Awards honored Mesquite businesses and community members. To read more about the businesses honored, visit BRE Awards.

City reports sales tax collections for February

The City of Mesquite February sales tax receipts, which represent sales activity for the month of December, was 8.0% above the amount reported for the same period last year. The current increase in sales activity is driven primarily by manufacturing and utilities. Sales tax contributes 27% of the total revenue used to support the General Fund. The City uses the General Fund for services including police, fire, parks and recreation, libraries, neighborhood services and public works.

Spring Break Camp

Send your kids to Spring Break Camp for a day or week of fun at Dunford Recreation Center, 1015 Green Canyon, or Camp Rorie Galloway, 3100 Lawson Road. Camps are for kindergarten through sixth grade students and operate Monday, March 13 through Friday, March 17 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Dunford daily fee is $20 per resident/$30 per non-resident, Camp Rorie Galloway daily fee is $25 per resident/$35 per non-resident. Black History Month: House Music with DJ Leo J 

The Mesquite Arts Center welcomes DJ Leo J as he talks about the history of “House Music” and how it relates to Black History. This program will premiere on Mesquite Arts Center's YouTube Channel on Feb. 22 at 4 p.m. Check out all the MACs YouTube content and virtual workshops here
