Tonight's art show reception features talented weavers

Tonight is the night, and this is your invitation to join us at the Keller Public Arts Evening with the Artists reception!

At this gathering, you can view the artwork from our latest exhibit, “Conversations in Thread,” meet the artists who created these amazing pieces and enjoy some light refreshments. The party starts at 7 p.m. here at Keller Town Hall, 1100 Bear Creek Pkwy.

If you can’t make it to tonight’s event, don’t worry; this exhibit will be on display in Town Hall until Feb. 23.

Road closures kick off on Johnson Road project

Johnson Road between Hallelujah Trail and Keller-Smithfield Road closed to thru traffic this week as utility work begins on a $7.24 million project that will reconstruct the two-lane road, replace water lines, upgrade the drainage system to curb-and-gutter, add a sidewalk on the south side of the street, and convert the Johnson/Keller-Smithfield intersection into a roundabout.

Here’s what to expect:

-The full project footprint runs from roughly Hallelujah Trail to Rhonda Road.

-Construction on the entire project is expected to take about 18 months, wrapping up in June 2024.

-North/south movement on Keller-Smithfield through the Johnson intersection will remain open throughout the project (often using temporary pavement) to ensure access for first responders working out of Fire Station 2.

-Work is starting on the west end of the project with water line replacements, moving east. Once water lines are complete, work will move from east to west as the contractor converts bar-ditch drainage to curb-and-gutter.

-Residents within the construction zone will have access to their properties, as will CWD, USPS, other delivery drivers, etc. throughout the project. East-west thru traffic will often be limited, with detours directing drivers south to Keller Parkway or north to Bancroft or Florence, depending on which section of the project is under construction.

Detours for this first closure will use Ottinger Road/Bancroft Road/Bourland Road as well as Rufe Snow Drive/Keller Parkway. Please be aware that this closure may end up lasting several months, depending on the impact of the heavy equipment on that section of pavement; we will have a better sense of that timing once work is underway and will continue to provide updates throughout the project as closures and detours change.

COMING SOON: Nautical Bowls Superfood Bowls

Before you know it, we’ll have another all-natural, fresh and fruity eatery in Keller.

Nautical Bowls is coming to town, and they’re bringing a bunch of healthy grub for us to enjoy. Each bowl is filled with a sorbet-like base and topped with your choice of seed, nut, granola, and fruit. Nautical’s menu is plant-based, and you won’t find any dairy, gluten, soy, or refined sugars in its products.

These nutrient-rich bowls are ideal for active people looking for a pre- or post-workout snack or meal replacement. And that’s what attracted Nautical Bowls-Keller’s owner Vuong Nguyen to town.

“I live in the area, and when I drive through town, I always see active people in Keller, but what I didn’t see was super-food places,” Nguyen said, “and that is what we are offering: something you can eat without feeling guilty.”

Nautical Bowls-Keller plans to open by the end of February. Their operating hours will be 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days a week, and they’re actively looking for morning shift help.

To see a list of signature bowls, bases and toppings, visit www.nauticalbowls.com, and if you’re interested in applying for a job, visit www.nauticalbowls.com/careers/deck-hand/

The Keller Pointe celebrates newly renovated indoor pool

We’re trying to pool off a party this winter, and you’re invited! Join us as we celebrate the re-opening of our indoor pool at The Keller Pointe. There will be games and prizes, and the pool will be open for everyone to enjoy.

The party runs from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Jan. 28 at The Keller Pointe, 405 Rufe Snow Drive. All are welcome! Don’t worry about the cold weather outside; the recipe for instant fun requires water.

Fishing event invites children to catch rainbow trout

Later this month, grab your fishing rods and head over to the Bear Creek Park Pond! Our first Fishing for Fun event of the new year is set for 9-11:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, on-site at 400 Bear Creek Park Road.

Aimed at inspiring a love for fishing in children, this event, in partnership with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, is free for anglers 16 and younger. The pond will be stocked with rainbow trout, and we’ll be giving away prizes in a number of competitions.

Attendees should bring their own supplies, and participating children should have an adult buddy. (Please note that children 16 and younger do not require a fishing license; if accompanying adults plan to fish personally, they will need a valid fishing license from TPWD.)
