Austin, TX - Nestled in the heart of the Texas Hill Country with majestic panoramic views, the City of Austin’s premier Grey Rock Golf Club just became even more spectacular following an expansive improvement project.  After a five-month closure to complete the resurfacing of the greens and tees under the direction of Golf Course Superintendent Jim Papa, the club’s Jay Morrish-designed championship golf course reopened on October 23. A series of special events and daily discounts will be offered through Friday, November 3, when an official grand reopening celebration will welcome in the public with live music, delicious food and family activities.  The club is managed by premier golf management company Touchstone Golf.

“With this incredible maintenance project, The City of Austin has cemented Grey Rock’s status as a first-class golf amenity for residents and visitors to the City.  In a post-pandemic golf environment, reinvestment in facilities is key to maintaining guest engagement with golf and we are grateful for the City’s commitment to the sport and the community,” said Touchstone Golf President Mark Luthman.

Designed to significantly enhance the quality, consistency and playability of the golf course for the enjoyment of daily fee golfers and members, the project was highlighted by extensive enhancements to the tees and greens.  All tees were revegetated with latitude 36 Bermuda grass, restoring the teeing grounds to their original size; the member range tee was expanded and resurfaced; drainage was enhanced on greens throughout the course; and all greens were sprigged with Tiff Eagle and restored to their original size as well. Other improvements included the aeration and top-dressing of all fairways; extensive resodding of roughs; the addition of artificial turf around the pavilion to create lawn game and sitting areas; and the installation of solar screens on the pavilion for the comfort of private event guests.  Papa and his team collaborated with Fleetwood Services to orchestrate the renovation.
