Seattle, WA - On June 9, 2025, Chair Shasti Conrad released the following statement regarding SEIU California President David Huerta’s detainment and the ICE raids in Los Angeles:

“Washington Democrats call for the immediate release of SEIU California President David Huerta and every other illegally detained person in ICE’s custody.  David’s role as an important ally to the Labor Movement made him a target for the Trump administration. 

“This is a make or break moment for our country. We must stand up and speak out about the incredible overreach of Trump’s government to quell dissent and target primarily black and brown people. Constitutional rights don’t apply only when it’s convenient for the government. Due process and freedom of assembly are foundational to our democracy. 

“The appalling escalation of violence in Los Angeles by the Trump administration’s deployment of the National Guard over the objections of the Governor and Mayor is meant to silence dissent. We, and the American people, will not be silent as our rights are trampled upon.”
