Government and Politics

January 29, 2025

ARIZONA – On Jan 28th, Donald Trump ordered a freeze on federal grants and loans, which a federal judge has temporarily halted and the White House has backpeddled on resending Amidst confusion on the freeze, millions of Arizonans who rely on programs such as Medicare, veteran job assistance and home loans, local funding for police, school lunch services, federal student loans, and Meals on Wheels would no longer receive assistance and are bracing for impact.

“Donald Trump’s federal funding freeze is an all-out assault on Arizona’s working families, veterans, and our police officers, ” said Chairman of the Arizona Democratic Party Robert Branscomb. “Donald Trump and his billionaire donors will never understand that these funding freezes would mean millions of Arizonans will lose the benefits they rely on to live. Arizona’s last line of defense from Donald Trump’s life-changing cuts is our statewide and federal Democrats who are working around the clock to protect federal funding.”

Statewide, Arizona Democrats are fighting back against the Trump funding freeze. Attorney General Kris Mayes is suing to halt the federal freeze, and Governor Hobbs is writing a letter to Arizona’s congressional delegation urging them to take immediate action.

The Arizona Democratic Party is focused on protecting incumbent Democrats and electing more Democrats up and down the ballot. Voters can visit  azdem.org to make a donation or learn more about key priorities within the Party.
