8th Annual Earth Day - 'Dance for Ataabey' at Puerto Rican Cultural Center

Arts and Entertainment

March 21, 2025

From: Puerto Rican Cultural Center

COME WEARING FLOWERS!

Bring your beach chair & maraca!

Join Yukayeke Yara Cu as we honor Ataabey (Mother Earth) -- with a Spring Ceremony -- of ceremonial dance, Batu Ballgame, and family activities under the Pecan Trees of our Batey!

For the Taino, the Spring Season begins with the Spring Equinox, and is marked with celebrations of gratefulness for the Spring rains that bring new life to the Earth.

During this season, Attaabey invites us to plant not only new seeds into the Earth but into our lives.

Bring your Maraca! WE ARE TAINO and in Taino tradition, we dance ALOT!!

Come participate in Areyto - ceremonial dance and song - and learn to play the Taino ballgame of Batu, and other native games for the whole family.

Our Spring Gathering will take place in the Batey of the Puerto Rican Cultural Center, 701 Tillery Street, Austin TX.
