Midori, violin & Ozgur Aydin, piano
One of the great artists of the violin world, Midori returns to our stage with pianist Özgür Aydin for a recital of music at the heart of her artistry and musical vision.
She opens with violinist and composer Che Buford’s contemporary work based on spirituals, Resonances of Spirit – a work the composer says, “focuses on the violin’s capacity to express pain and sorrow.” Brahms’ lyrical G-Major Sonata and Poulenc’s only violin sonata, with its touches of Parisian character, are followed by a pair of works by Ravel. The concert closes with one of Midori’s signature works, the composer’s fiery Tzigane, which she performed in her recital debut 30-plus years ago and continues to make her own.
