In Bed with Jazz: A Classical Flutist's Liaison with jazz vibes, Claude Bolling, and the Devil Himself

In life and in music, Emily Olson has pushed against the confines of any one category to describe her artistry. In this genre-bending Kaleidoscope concert, Olson invites listeners to relish the colorful and improvisatory interplay of the flute with jazz vibraphone, the simple groove under a beautifully “blued” melody, and a fiery duo with hand drum that evokes elements of Hindustani classical music. In the second half of the program, Claude Bolling’s 2nd Suite jumps right into bed with jazz, offering a freer and more sophisticated sequel to his popular baroque-inspired original. Flutist Emily Olson is joined by vibraphonist and drummer Cary Kocher, pianist Brian DiBlassio, and bassist Nick Calandro.
