The 7th Annual Earth Day Festival is an educational day featuring nature walks, tram rides, guest speakers, exhibits and activities for children and families. Park visitors of all ages will learn about what government agencies and environmental organizations are doing to make a world of difference locally! Nature walks include a birding hike at 10 a.m. and a Kids Discovery Nature Walk at 11 a.m. Hikes are approximately one hour. Exhibitors include the following. Archbold Biological Station, the Nature Conservancy, Florida Trail Association, Florida Forest Service, Heartland Beekeepers, IFAS Master Gardeners, the United States Department of Agriculture and the Florida Department of Health. Also included are two Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission exhibits. FWC will provide Black Bear Education and highlight the FWC Ridge Rangers who participate in resource management along the Lake Wales Ridge. This year's festival will also feature a special exhibition of Florida Highwaymen artists. Speaker programs include Joe Guthrie, Wildlife Biologist, Archbold Biological Station, who will present "The History of Predator/Prey Research at Archbold Biological Station," Chris Boyce, FWC South Area Bear Biologist, who will advise Florida residents on "Living with Florida Black Bears & Reducing Bear/Human Conflicts," and David Schmidt, Civilian Conservation Corps Museum Curator, HHSP, who will reveal the extraordinary "Origins and Legacy of Highlands Hammock State Park & Archbold Biological Station." Food and refreshments will be available at Hendricks Sak O'Nutz and the Hammock Inn concession.
