Centering Prayer is a receptive method of silent prayer developed in 1981 by Trappist Monk, Father Thomas Keating. We experience God's presence within us – closer than breathing, closer than thinking, closer than consciousness itself. This method of prayer is both a relationship with God and a discipline to foster that relationship.

Led by Susan Turpin, a commissioned presenter of Centering Prayer under the guidance of Contemplative Outreach since 1998. She has taught and facilitated groups in Centering Prayer in churches, hospitals, prisons, and at retreats. She currently leads annual 9- and 10-day retreats at the Mercy Center in Auburn, California, modeled on the retreats designed by Fr. Keating. Susan is also a certified Spiritual Director and a participant in Resurrection's Friday morning Contemplative Prayer practice.
