Robert Schumann – Piano Quartet in E-flat Major, Op. 47
Composed in 1842. Dedicated to the Russian cellist Matthieu Wielhorsky,
it was written with Schumann’s wife Clara in mind, who would be the pianist
at the premiere on 8 December 1844 in Leipzig, Germany
Gustav Mahler – Piano Quartet in A Minor
One movement work by 16-year-old composer, premiered in 1876 at Vienna Conservatory, his only surviving chamber music composition.
The Quartet forms part of the soundtrack in Martin Scorsese’s 2010 motion picture Shutter Island
Władysław (Ladislas) Żeleński (1837-1921) – Piano Quartet in C Minor, Op. 61
Piano Quartet was composed around 1907 and published in 1910. A great late romantic
work of this outstanding Polish composer from Cracow, only recently rediscovered.
