The Institute for Public Leadership... Provides mentoring and training for women who plan to run for elective office or manage a political campaign. In cooperation with the YWCA of WNY this program is held on alternate years in Niagara County and Erie County. The YWCA of Niagara kicks off the 2007 Institute for Public Leadership with a luncheon that will be held on Thursday, April 19, 2007 at Tattler's in Niagara Falls, from 12 noon to 2pm, featuring a panel of distinguished women who will discuss their election and campaign experiences. The cost of the IPL, which includes the luncheon and training sessions is $50.00 per person. Among the panelists are: Hon. Sharon Townsend, NYS Supreme Court Judge Flora McKenzie, City Council, Lockport Hon. Francine DelMonte, Member NYS Assembly Rebecca Cuddahee, Member, Niagara County Legislature Laura Monte, Regional Representative for Gov. Eliott Spitzer The two-2 hour training sessions are scheduled for Thursday, April 26, 2007 and Thursday May 3, 2007. They will be held at BOCES Tech Center on Rt. 31 in Sanborn from 6:00pm-8:00pm both nights. The training sessions will cover most aspects of what you can expect in the campaign and election process: Planning an effective door-to-door campaign turn those visits into votes! Getting involved with your Political Party securing endorsements, election districts and more! The Eugene and Maria Monk Memorial Scholarship Trust... Was set up to help women in Niagara County who wish to achieve post secondary education. Applicants may be of non-traditional college age and plan to attend or are attending an accredited post secondary institution. Applications are accepted year round.
