The Carroll County Department of Recreation and Parks had its 2005 Volunteer of the Year Awards Ceremony on November 3 at the Carroll Arts Center in Westminster.

The Woodbine Recreation Council recognized Mike & Corey Franklin.

Mike Franklin has been active in Woodbine Recreation Council programs for over 20 years, not only as a participant, but behind the scenes. He has participated in our softball program as a player and coach, has helped with the organization of tournaments, as well as, preparing and maintaining the playing fields at Salt Box Ball Park. Mike also coached our boy's basketball team.

Mike's son, Corey, began helping when he was around 5 years old- picking up trash and following his Dad's lead. At 13, Corey began working on the fields each evening to prepare for softball games, keeping trash cans emptied, occasional mowing, hauling dirt to repair rain damage, etc.. At 17, Corey continues helping and after 20 years, so does Mike.

We are fortunate to have this good team with us and are proud to name them our 2005 Volunteers of the Year.
