The Wellfleet Historical Society was organized in 1951 to foster an interest in the town and its history. Membership is open to all residents and visitors to Wellfleet. Dues are $5.00 a year and may be paid at the Museum on Main Street. The public is invited to visit the Museum ($1.00 donation); children under 12, when accompanied by an adult, and members are admitted free.

The society's collection includes old photographs, maps, documents, marine artifacts, Indian artifacts, a small collection of period clothing, household, agricultural and commerce related items. Special theme exhibits are planned for summer months.
