The Watonga Public Schools encompasses 207 square miles. In 2006-2007, the district population was 5,780 with an enrollment of 809 students. Grades PK-12 are incorporated. Pre-kindergarten offers a half-day program and kindergarten is full-day. Enrollment, through Chisholm Trail Technology Center, is available to junior and senior high school students interested in vocational training. Eagle Academy is offered for 6-12 grade students as an alternative education site.
The district operates 508 computer stations. All sites have Internet-connected computer labs. Teachers and students have access to computers and the Internet in their classrooms. Mr. Darrel Merkey serves the district as Technology Technician and is competent in computer repair, networking, and software installation. Classroom teachers, secretaries, and media specialists serve each building as Technology Representatives. There are two representatives per site.
Watonga Schools has 75 certified staff members and 36 support staff members. The average years of experience for classroom teachers is 17.4 years. Average class size is 16.6 students per class. A full college entrance curriculum is offered high school students. The graduation rate is 86.7% compared with the state average of 75.4%. Over 92% of our high school seniors complete the Oklahoma college-bound curriculum.
