The Union County YMCA was originally incorporated in 1987 and operated in a small storefront space on Main St. in Union. In March 1994, the Union County YMCA was chartered as a YMCA by the YMCA of the USA. Upon being chartered, a partnership with the City of Union was created which included moving into a building that was formerly part of the Union High School campus on Main St. In 1995, the City of Union recognizing a need for a community swimming pool for the residents and affordable access to athletic and recreational activities made drastic renovations to the facility. The renovations included the addition of a swimming pool with five lanes for lap swimming and a zero entry area splash pad. The interior of the building was completely reworked with plumbing, electrical, and lighting to accommodate the needs of a facility that serves the community of all ages and needs. The facility remains in this state today with the exception of minor cosmetic enhancements.
