The Town of Sprague was incorporated in 1861. We are comprised of three pristine villages, Baltic, Hanover, and Versailles, which make up Sprague, a picture-postcard turn-of-the-century mill town. We are the only town in the area that can boast three post offices: one in Baltic, one in Hanover and one in Versailles. We are known for our great salmon fishing, canoeing and picturesque woods. Our little town is clustered around the banks of the Shetucket River, which flows from Willimantic to Norwich .
An official seal was ordered and drawn for the Town of Sprague in April 1961, its Centennial Year. The drawing of the seal contains a circle, having in the center a sketch of the Sprague Gristmill with its nearby fields for farming. Progress is designated by the seven smokestacks, representing the industrial factories of the town. Advancement in transportation is shown by the horse and buggy and the jet plane. Religious integrity and freedom is noted by the church steeple. The friendly relations among the nationalities is depicted by the people drawn in the sketch. The advancement Sprague has strived to maintain since its incorporation in 1861 is summed up by its motto, PROGRESSIVE AND GRACIOUS LIVING, which is lettered in the frame of the seal
