Goal
Community Service is the mission of the Cancer Center. In addition to providing quality cancer care and treatment, our goals include cancer prevention through education, early detection through cancer awareness and screening programs, and psychological support services to patients and caregivers
About Us
The Sierra Nevada Cancer Center was founded in 1995 to provide quality care and treatment for cancer patients in the community. It has since developed into a widely recognized and respected regional cancer facility.
The center is nationally accredited and designated as a Comprehensive Community Cancer Program by the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons. Just one of six U.S. hospitals has reached this level of accreditation.
Cancer patients receiving treatment at a Commission-approved hospital should be comfortable in knowing they have access to quality, comprehensive care and the best treatment options.
Personnel at the Cancer Center include 14 employees who work with three physicians, 12 hematology staff and nine contractors, with support through an active program of community volunteers.
The Cancer Center staff takes pride in a a team approach that goes beyond the basic treatment of cancer. Here, we believe deeply the concept of healing, in the care of mind and spirit as well as the body.
The center treats nearly every form of cancer and is well-connected for referrals to some of the finest cancer centers on the West Coast. The most common cancers treated at SNMH and in the region are breast, prostate, lung, colon and bladder.
Importantly, quarterly surveys of outpatients at the Sierra Nevada Cancer Center have consistently shown satisfaction ratings at the 95-100 percent level. The center also is proud to record the highest breast cancer survival rates among hospitals in the region.
