A dedicated group of imaginative and creative art lovers whose purpose is to promote and appreciate fine art and fine craft.
It was in 1979 that Poquoson City Manager Roy Staton asked Sally Gobrecht to serve on the Poquoson Parks and Recreation Board and to help guide an effort to develop the arts in Poquoson. Within a short time, the Poquoson Art league was formed.
The Poquoson Art League organizes and produces the juried arts and crafts portion of the annual Poquoson Seafood Festival, giving awards and prizes totalling over $2,000, and awards prizes for the Student Art Show. PAL also participates in Child Fest, sponsors an annual Holiday Gallery which has become a community favorite activity, and provides monetary support to the Art Teachers of Poquoson and the Poquoson and Tabb Libraries.
This year we had a Spring Art Studio Tour of five homes with demonstrations. A portion of the proceeds went to the Poquoson Art League Jonathan McCrane Scholarship Fund. This event, which was chaired by Deborah Scott, will become an annual event because of its success.
