History
The Oxford International Film Festival was created by independent film and event Director/Producer JC SCHRODER (CEO of Star Com Productions) in the spring of 2006. Realizing that there was no outlet for filmmakers in the region, and no major film festival to speak of -- Schroder began building support for what would become the first, largest and only major film festival in the region. Over the next few months of seeking support for the non-profit event, the Miami Association of Filmmakers and Independent Actors (aka MAFIA Films) a student film production organization at Miami University of Ohio agreed to be the first to support the event, planning began, with eventually over a dozen major sponsors including the local government, arts foundations, and national corporations pledging their support. The first annual Oxford International Film Festival took place April 5-8, 2007 at the Marcum Conference Center in Oxford, Ohio, and was an incredible success, garnering public interest and media attention across the globe. As a result, the Miami Film Association was founded (the name stemming from the Miami-Ohio River, which runs through the region) as a non-profit corporation not only to manage the festival, but dedicated to supporting a variety of new year-round community and student film programs in the region
