History of the Oregon Coast Home and Garden Show:

A Step Through Time

History is part of our heritage. It defines who we are and what we are made of. History demonstrates growth, set backs and memories. Since history affects every day life, I would invite you to take a trip through time. A trip that will not only illustrate the past of all shows, but also of our very own Oregon Coast Home and Garden Show.

History of Nation Home Improvement Shows:

The first show took place at Madison Square Garden in 1900 demonstrating automobiles only.
Most Convention Centers were held at railroad hub cities in 1905. This was to make transportation for attendees more available.
In 1909, the Road Show Arrived in Columbus, Ohio with of 40 manufactures filling 40,000 feet and attracting 1,000 people.
Following the bombing of Pearl Harbor (Dec. 1941), the nation's resources were diverted to the war effort. The government imposed travel restrictions to conserve fuel and able-bodied men to take leave from their jobs to join the armed forces. Most shows were suspended for the duration of the war.In the early 1970s, pop-up displays were introduced , making it much more cost-effective for companies to exhibit in multiple events.
