The Northern Ohio Outlaws started as an affiliate club of 1st Ohio CMSA in 2004 and 2005. The President was Barb Ruwe, Vice President was Dave Ferguson, Secretary was Dottye Ferguson, and the Treasurer was Vicki Page. There were no directors at that time. They met in the basement of a little church in Uhrichsville, Ohio and at a member's home. The club had one CMSA shoot in 2004 at the Triple Turn Arena in Canal Winchester, Ohio. In 2005, two CMSA shoots were held at the same arena.
The club became the Northern Ohio Outlaws January 1st, 2006. In 2006 as a club, 5 directors were elected to serve the club. Three CMSA shoots were held that year: One at the Franklin County Fairgrounds, Hilliard, Ohio; one at the Dover Rodeo, Dover Ohio; and one at the Wayne County Fairgrounds, Wooster, Ohio. All the Northern Ohio Outlaw CMSA shoots have been at the Wayne County Fairgrounds, since 2007.
Several of the charter members are still members of the club. They include Dave & Dottye Ferguson, George & Lynette Rogers, Dan & Connie App, Joe & Bobbie Coalter. In just 7 years the Outlaws have grown from a humble 30 members to the worlds largest CMSA chapter with over 270 members... and growing.
In 2012, in conjunction with the Wayne County Fair Board, the Outlaws added a second arena to the Wayne County Fairgounds. In recognition of his financial contribution and years of never ending support at all levels, the arena was named the Dan App Arena.
At the 2012 All American Quarter Horse Congress, the Outlaws set a CMSA record by holding the first ever CMSA shoot to use 3 arenas.
