The Laconia Multicultural Market Day was established in 2001 after the Laconia Human Relations Committee was enacted to promote the acceptance of diversity in our populace.
A "Celebration of Our Diversity" to welcome cultures, old and new, hosts an all day fun-filled festival for the whole family with music, cuisine, crafts, and much more from many nations.
This festival is non-profit and free thanks to donations, sponsors and volunteer help from the community and it is held the first Thursday after Labor Day in September in the beautiful Laconia downtown settings of historic mills and riverside park.
It begins with the Parade of International Flags and ends with a late afternoon concert usually featuring a vibrant group of performers of African, Cajun, Latin, Klezmer, Irish, Jazz music. Groups like the Black Sea Salsa, Boogaloo Swamis, Ras Moon and Monsoon, and others entertain in the beautiful riverside Rotary Park.
The 2011 Laconia Multicultural Market Day marks the 10th Anniversary with the fesival on Saturday, September 10 and is hosted by Laconia Human Relations Committee, Historic Belknap Mill, Laconia Main Street and Frates Creative Arts Studio.
