Kaye Krapohl received her bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Michigan. Kaye has been the recipient of the Hallmark National Scholastic Gold Medal, National Endowment of the Arts Award, and numerous other national and regional awards. A resident of Traverse City, Kaye is inspired by the natural beauty of the Grand Traverse Region, and the unique opportunities it provides for paintings. Kaye has studied with Don Rice, Lou Marino, Paul Stewart, Tekashi Takahara, and David Small, as well as through the writings and works of Richard Schmid.
She paints primarily "pein air" with an emphasis on portraying the beauty of Northern Michigan landscapes, rivers, and lakes. She also paints commissioned portraits of people and homes. She enjoys using her artwork to help communicate the rare beauty of the area, but also to preserve the area by donating part of the proceeds of her work back to local organizations such as TART (Traverse Area Recreational and Transportation Trails), Michigan Land Use Institute, Leelanau Land Conservancy and several grass roots committees working to preserve open space in the region. Sales of limited edition prints and cards go directly to TART and the State Hospital Committee working to preserve the old State Hospital Grounds. Her work is available online at www.krapohlfineart.com and the Dennos Museum gift shop.
Kaye's work can be seen at Lake Street Studios the end of August for a one-woman show, and November at Hattie's in Suttons Bay.
