Mission:
The mission of the Gonzales Youth Center is to build a better world by producing positive, productive, progressive young people. GYC minimizes gang involvement, decreases crime and curtails the rise of teenage pregnancy and substance abuse: while building self-esteem, life-skills and community involvement.
We have created a balance with being a safe fun place where the kids want to be and encouraging community service, teaching life skills, health education, and other enrichment programs
About Us:
The Gonzales Youth Center provides a safe, supervised, positive environment for children in the 6th, 7th and 8th grades.
The youth center continues to see an increase in the number of at risk kids as demographics shift. Federal and state funding to support our program is going away. For many years the local economy has been stagnant and local governments have been working with limited resources.
Although the Eagle Ford Shale is beginning to have a big impact on this area, it also adds additional demand for our services and higher costs of delivery in terms of wages and program costs.
Due to changing demographics and increased demand for our services we will need additional support to keep up.
The Gonzales Youth Center is an equal opportunity provider. Our current membership is 300 students with daily average attendance of 65. We provide bus service that makes it possible for rural as well as, in town students to attend. This service keeps our kids safe and off the streets when the center closes each evening.
The center’s hours are Monday- Thursday 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m., and Saturday 3:00 p.m. -10:00 p.m. with exceptions for field trips and community service projects.
