Glendi is the Greek word for ‘party’ and the entire parish comes together at this fund-raiser to celebrate our unity in diversity. Thousands of visitors come to our grounds for one weekend each September to eat, dance and relax. Voted “Best Way to Eat Around the World” by the Sonoma County Independent, we offer for sale foods from Middle Eastern, Eritrean, Kenyan, Russian, Greek, Balkan, Romanian, & American cultures. Also available are Ethnic Baked Goods, Roast Lamb, Gyros and various beverages including Greek Coffee, Soda, Wine & Micro-brewery Beer.
After enjoying the diverse foods offered, our visitors can dance to live Balkan music. Local folk dance clubs often join in the fun and Greek and Balkan line dancing is the order of the day. As in previous years, this year’s music will be provided by Edessa, and there will be free dance lessons offered throughout the weekend. There is also a supervised Children’s Craft & Play Area so that parents can have a chance to dance and chat with friends.
Introductory lectures will be given in both of our churches hourly. The lectures last approximately 30 minutes, leaving time for questions afterwards. You are also welcome to visit our churches at any time throughout the day. For many who take our tours, it is their first taste of Orthodoxy. The church tours and lectures are conducted by our principle iconographer and others within our community. They have become a highlight of our festival and an important form of outreach for this parish.
