Friends of
Pepperell Recreation is a 501(c)(3)
non-profit organization serving children and teenagers, ages 18 and younger, as
well as people of all ages, still children at heart.
Establishing new relationships with an
area business is in keeping with our objectives to collaborate with other area
organizations for the betterment of the community.
Since
the creation of Friends of Pepperell Recreation with have worked with Pepperell
Fourth of July Committee coordinating the Bike Parade, Friends of the Library
in donating items to their toy sale, Worcester Earn-A-Bike by donating unsold
bicycles from our used bike sale fundraiser.
We
are a young organization with a commitment to enjoyment, expansion and
improvement of our town's recreational facilities that are mostly
outdoors.In keeping with promoting
health and safety of area residents, we are happy to embark on a commitment to
sun safety within our organization as we apply for a shade structure grant.
We
have several links on our website to sun safe sites, we are pursuing samples of
sun screen products to distribute at Pepperell's summer playground program,
summer band stand concerts and other outdoor events. It is our objective to promote sun safety through education and
making sun safety a priority at Friends of Pepperell events.
Our
short term goal is installation of new playground equipment on town field. This equipment has not been updated in over
30 years.
Following the
installation of our playground equipment we hope we will work with the local garden
club to plant shade trees to provide natural shade where needed to maximize safe
hours of play on the town field. This
natural shade will be in addition to our pursuit of funding for a permanent
shade structure.
The
installation of our new playground's phase I is expected in or before early
summer. We would plan the construction of the shade structure, if selected to
receive this grant, to coincide with the community build installation.
Members
of our organization are involved in many community groups.Publicity and announcements would include
school parent-teacher organizations, library, garden club as well as area
newspapers.
